We have a mission to make more people fan of heated blankets and to lower the use of energy. Amazed how ugly the old fashioned heated blankets looked with fleecy materials and bad design, we decided to do something about it. In fact we decided to turn that around and make a heated blanket that is luscious and beautiful.

No batteries, smaller footprint, no hassle

The full surface of the Bohem blanket gets you warm, where battery run blankets only warm a small part of a blanket.

Batteries have a large footprint, in sourcing and in pollution. The BOHEM has a much smaller footprint and uses up to 40% less energy than battery powered blankets.

One more practical reason to avoid batteries for a blanket on your couch: no hassle, no need to remember another thing to charge. You simply plug the BOHEM in a wall socket.

Many people using battery powered blankets end up using the blanket plugged-in all the time anyway. Why waste a battery?

  • ISO 14001

    We work with factories with good environmental management and our factories are ISO 14001 certified.

  • LOW IMPACT

    We plan to use low-impact dyes for our knitwear as soon as possible. We're still researching this.

  • GREEN LOGISTICS

    We will ship over sea for long distances and use or promote green certified logistics partners for delivery.

  • PACKAGING

    All packaging and manuals are made of recycled carton. We use no plastic in our packaging.

How it began

Aam and Stefan work in a beautiful studio in a former hospital in Amsterdam. Built in the 19th century, the studio has very high ceilings and old radiators. Heating the space takes long, sometimes seems impossible and energy costs are high.

In the middle of a cold winter, Aam and Stefan knew that the most sustainable way to stay comfortably warm and not waste energy was to create a warm spot where you really need it, warming ourselves, not the entire space.

With less energy than any other heating device, it uses less than 160 Watt, you embrace yourself in warmth and comfort. Head-to-toe-happiness!

BOHEM: The development

  • Research

    We researched and tested heating technologies, controllers, safety aspects, manufacturers and certifications. We looked for the nicest and friendliest materials and styles to replace the often ugly outer shells of heated blankets and their components, researched production methods and packaging.

  • Testing

    We both visited manufacturers, tested many prototypes and work together on logistics and commercial planning. While testing prototypes more and more people around us became enthusiast about the blankets. Our first prototype has been in use for over two years.

  • Result

    We found that quite some people already 'secretly' use heated blankets but hide them for people visiting because of their appearance. Aam: "We are proud our beautiful heated blankets look good on your couch. They are even doing their job when you are not using them."
